Organizers & Support Purpose
As Africa’s premier opera company and one of South Africa’s largest non-profit performing arts organisations, Cape Town Opera not only produces world-class performances, but also provides permanent employment to young singers, opera practitioners, instructors and administrators.
In addition, the company issues an average of over 200 ad hoc contracts to artists ranging from choreographers, musicians, directors, conductors, designers, and technicians over the course of a season.
Cape Town Opera is supported by the Rotary E-Club Hamburg-Connect, represented by Gerda Jung.
Rotary International is a worldwide association of professional men and women. Its members are expected to demonstrate outstanding professional achievement, personal integrity, a cosmopolitan attitude, and a willingness to engage in community service. Tolerance of all peoples, religions, lifestyles, and democratic parties is paramount to Rotarians.
With the Cape Town Opera Golf Day we support the Opera’s Youth, Development, and Education Programmes, particularly the Foundation Studio.
In a world where music education is being removed from schools, despite the benefits proved in various studies, Cape Town Opera is making a different with its Foundation Studio.
This internationally recognized programme aims to give talented high schoolers from disadvantaged backgrounds the skills needed to be eligible to apply to study music at a tertiary institution. Weekly lessons consist of vocal coachings, music theory, and keyboard skills. Additionally, meals, transportation between school, home, and the Artscape Theatre Centre, as well as all study materials are provided.
